Ingredients

Guacamole Ingredients

  • 3 large ripe avocados
  • 2-3 tablespoons (30-45ml) fresh lime juice, about 1 lime
  • 1-1½ teaspoons (5-8g) minced garlic (1-2 cloves)
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) diced serrano pepper (adjust to preference)
  • ½ teaspoon (1-2g) ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon (6g) chopped cilantro (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ⅓ cup (80g) diced tomatoes
  • ⅓ cup (80g) diced red onion

Instructions

  1. Prepare the avocados: Cut each avocado in half lengthwise around the pit. Twist and separate the halves. Carefully tap the pit with the sharp edge of a knife and twist the knife to remove the pit. Scoop out the flesh with a spoon into a bowl.
  2. Mash the avocado: Using a fork, mash the avocado flesh until you reach your desired texture, smooth with a bit of chunkiness is recommended but customize as you like.
  3. Add lime juice and spices: Pour in the fresh lime juice, then add minced garlic, diced serrano pepper, ground cumin, chopped cilantro, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine all flavors evenly.
  4. Mix in vegetables: Gently fold in the diced tomatoes and diced red onion to add freshness and texture to your guacamole.
  5. Chill before serving: Cover the bowl tightly with cling film and refrigerate until ready to serve. Before serving, taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.
  6. Serve: Enjoy your guacamole as a dip with tortilla chips or as a flavorful topping on tacos for an authentic Mexican touch.

Notes

  • Choose ripe avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure for the best creamy texture.
  • Adjust the amount of serrano pepper based on your spice preference; remove seeds for milder heat.
  • Use fresh lime juice to prevent browning and enhance flavor.
  • Serve immediately or within 24 hours for optimal freshness.
  • Covering tightly with plastic wrap helps to reduce oxidation and keep the guacamole green.
