Ingredients

Nutella Bombs:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup Nutella (or any hazelnut spread)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla extract and beat until smooth to bind the dough and add flavor.
  2. Combine the Dry Ingredients: Whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually incorporate these dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined, resulting in a soft and slightly sticky dough that can hold its shape.
  3. Chill the Dough: Cover the dough and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to firm it up, which makes handling and shaping easier while preventing spreading during baking.
  4. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: While chilling the dough, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat, or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  5. Form the Nutella Bombs: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of chilled dough and roll into balls. Create an indentation with your thumb, fill it with about a teaspoon of Nutella, then carefully fold and seal the dough around the filling. Roll again to enclose the Nutella completely.
  6. Roll in Powdered Sugar and Bake: Roll each filled dough ball in powdered sugar to coat. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden. Remove from oven and cool before serving.

Notes

  • Chilling the dough is essential for easier handling and to maintain shape during baking.
  • Use a small cookie scoop or spoon for consistent-sized Nutella Bombs.
  • Ensure the Nutella is completely enclosed to prevent leakage during baking.
  • Rolling in powdered sugar adds sweetness and a delicate texture.
  • Store cooled Nutella Bombs in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
